Program Description & Objectives

AHEC Academy 2008 will address the issue of innovation and technology implementation by healthcare organizations.  Implementation is an often poorly understood yet important dynamic when dealing with new initiatives in health care delivery.  Implementation failures are the primary reason most innovations and new technologies fall short of their potential in the workplace.  At the end of the workshop, participants will be able to:

  1. Design an implementation plan for innovations;

  2. Apply the principles of Lean production, particularly value stream mapping and Kaizen improvement, to organizational redesign necessitated by innovations;

  3. Develop a diffusion plan for getting employees to adopt innovations and new technologies;

  4. Develop workable human resource policies for managing and promoting change associated with innovation and new technologies;

  5. Apply the principles of effective change management to the implementation of innovation and new technologies; and

  6. Design a workplace for introducing and sustaining innovation through Lean techniques.

As part of the workshop, participants will get to work on a specific change and implementation plan for a particular innovation or new technology in their organization, interacting with colleagues to exchange ideas and best practies.
